Say Yes officials: College attainable for all Guilford students

Oscar Bravo, a senior at Ragsdale High, didn’t know how his father could afford to pay for college tuition for him and his sister, so he began looking for a part-time job.

He said his father even considered selling the family’s house or renting it out to raise money to pay for college for his children.

“It was the one thing on my mind that just kept at me,” Bravo said about paying for college.

Not anymore.

Bravo was among more than 400 students crowded into Ragsdale’s gym Thursday morning when local and national officials announced Guilford County is now a Say Yes to Education partnership community.

The class of 2016 will be the first eligible for last-dollar tuition scholarships that will fill the gap between tuition costs and any other scholarships or grants students receive.
