Say Yes Helps Plan for College

GUILFORD COUNTY — Say Yes Guilford and Guilford Parent Academy will present a free, three-part college planning series beginning Thursday at 6 p.m.

These sessions will give students and their families a better understanding of how college admission departments look at applications, how to ensure a smooth transition from high school to college and how the right choices can set up students for a successful career.

All events in the College Planning Workshop Series are free, but registration is recommended. Register online at www.sayyesguilford.org/collegeplanningseries.

The series includes:

• Navigating College Admissions: Choosing the Right College for You on Thursday, Feb. 13, 6-6:45 p.m. at Union Square Campus, 124 E. Gate City Blvd., Greensboro. Attendees gain valuable insight on the college admissions process from Donovan Livingston, assistant dean at Wake Forest University’s office of university collaborations and author of “Lift Off: From the Classroom to the Stars.” In addition, there will be a special series for Title 1 families from 6:45-7:30 p.m.

• Cash for College and Scholarships on Thursday, March 12, 6-7:30 p.m. at GTCC Jamestown, 601 E. Main St., Sears Applied Technology Building. Speaker will be Shawn Hall, author of “Prepare Now, Don’t Pay Later,” and other college scholarship experts.

• College Ready Mentality on Thursday, April 23, 6-7:30 p.m. at GTCC Jamestown, 601 E. Main St., Sears Applied Technology Building. Speakers will be Debra Eaton of Tassel to Tassel Inc. and a college student panel.
